Public Policy & Advocacy

Beyond Vision is more than an employer – we’re advocates for the blindness community.

We believe that people who are blind or visually impaired deserve equal access to employment, transportation, and independence. That’s why Beyond Vision is actively involved in advocacy at both the local and national level, fighting for policies that create opportunities and remove barriers.

Our Advocacy Work

Our public policy team regularly meets with government officials to discuss the needs of our community and the importance of accessible employment. We show up at committee meetings, speak to media outlets, and use our voice to defend essential services.

Recent examples of our advocacy include:

  • Blind Worker Transportation Services Credit: In 2024, Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers signed into law the “Blind Worker Transportation Services Credit”. Beyond Vision was the leader in advocating for this bill. And ultimately, with the support of our partners, this bill became law. Above is a picture of members of our team at the bill signing with the Governor.
  • Opposing transit cuts: When Milwaukee County proposed cuts to the transit system that would eliminate vital bus routes our employees rely on to get to work, we attended committee meetings and spoke to local media to make our community’s needs heard.   • Federal advocacy: Beyond Vision participates in the NIB/NAEPB Public Policy Forum, bringing our team to Capitol Hill to meet with legislators and advocate for AbilityOne and employment opportunities for people who are blind or visually impaired.

Our ongoing relationship with the AbilityOne program demonstrates our commitment to creating and protecting meaningful employment nationwide.
