The AbilityOne program started in 1938 when Congress enabled non-profit agencies employing visually impaired individuals to sell products to the federal government. The goal of the program is to create employment opportunities for people who are blind or have other significant disabilities. The Act states that an organization participating in the AbilityOne program must have 75% or more of their direct labor hours being performed by people who are blind or have significant disabilities. At Beyond Vision 90.5% of our direct labor staff is comprised of people who are blind.

The AbilityOne Program is the largest source of employment for people who are blind or have other significant disabilities in the country. It coordinates participation with more than 600 nonprofit agencies throughout the United States and represents $2.3 billion in products and services purchased by the federal government. The AbilityOne Program operates at nearly 1,000 locations representing 40 government agencies nationally.

Participating agencies produce a wide variety of products and services under the brand name SKILCRAFT®.  Currently, agencies produce more than 3,000 quality products used by the federal government.

Beyond Vision is proud to be associated with this program and dedicated to providing employment opportunities for individuals who are blind.  Beyond Vision’s manufacturing department produces high quality privacy screens and other office supplies sold to the federal government. The products produced by our visually impaired employees are of comparable or better quality than most commercial supplies, and are sold at a competitive fair market price. Beyond Vision operates 8 Base Supply Center locations providing the federal government with an avenue to purchase a wide variety of AbilityOne products.
