More than 20,000 people in Wisconsin age 40 and older are blind. More than 80,000 people in Wisconsin have Diabetic Retinopathy, 41,000 have Glaucoma, 44,000 have Macular Degeneration and 450,000 have Cataracts (Prevent Blindness America). Without sustainable employment opportunities many of these individuals will be threatened with impoverishment. The cost of productivity loss related to visual impairment in Wisconsin is estimated at more than $150 million annually (Prevent Blindness America). Creating employment that reduces this lost economic opportunity not only serves to reduce poverty for individuals who are blind, but throughout the entire community.
Wiscraft recognizes the significant challenges faced by those with vision loss, and we strive to make sure that employment isn’t one of them.
