We have great news!
We have finalized the purchase of a 2013 Okuma MB-4000H horizontal milling center. This “new to us” machine will expand our capabilities and grow employment opportunities for people who are blind or visually impaired.
We purchased it from Ranken Technical College down in St Louis Missouri. It has only been used for training, so the spindle hours are low. It’s the equivalent of buying a car from 2013 with only 10,000 miles on it.
Horizontal milling allows us to:
-
Handle more complex parts by cutting 3 sides per process
-
Make heavier and deeper cuts on materials
-
Offer faster production without load/unload time
-
Create smoother finishes to reduce additional labor
-
Produce angled cuts for a greater variety of projects
This purchase comes after an exhaustive national search for the right machine at the right price. Below is a video of it arriving at our shop. It was a tight squeeze, but our team made it work!
This was all made possible by the generous contributions from our supporters to our campaign. We are grateful for your support of this project and our powerful Mission.

What to help us make a difference too?
Beyond Vision has been proud to do this work for 120 years. We need your support to continue this work long into the future!
We grow skills like computer literacy, mobility, machining, leadership development, and more.
But beyond helping people who are vision-impaired to earn a paycheck, we empower people to reach their full potential by focusing on their abilities, not their disabilities.
Your donation allows us to continue to help our people find success, whether continuing their work at Beyond Vision or beginning exciting new careers with other organizations.
